Ring The Bell is an installation dedicated to children who have undergone, or are currently undergoing, medical treatment. Inspired by the tradition in many hospitals where patients ring a bell to mark the completion of treatment, this work stands both as a celebration of recovery and as a memorial to those who never had the opportunity to ring the bell themselves.
At the centre of the installation, the bell and the bird represent the hope carried by every patient — the hope of healing, freedom and a new beginning. The house sparrow, a familiar bird across the Maltese islands, was chosen as a symbol of resilience, courage, growth and the strength to continue forward despite adversity.
The birds throughout the installation reflect the emotional and physical journey experienced by children and their families during treatment. The figure of the child looking upward towards the bell embodies aspiration, determination and hope.
Children, families, Klown Doctors, healthcare professionals and visitors are invited to ring the bell in recognition of milestones achieved — whether the completion of treatment, a successful procedure, a moment of strength, or the memory of a child deeply loved and never forgotten.
Each ring becomes an act of remembrance, celebration and encouragement.
A lasting symbol of hope during treatment and beyond.
